Thanks for the reply, Chad. Yes, the hype surrounding him was enormous, and the Red Sox fueled that hype. He pitched well enough to win 18, and if you check in again on FB you can see another debate raging there about the quality of his performances, but my point is, this is not what we were led to expect, and in the intangibles department, he's just awful.

1. It's difficult to say how Manny's Cooperstown chances will be affected at this stage of the game. His response to the implication (Bonds vs. Pettitte), the sincerity of that response (Pettitte vs. A-Rod), the type of substance used (steroids vs. HGH)...these will all influence the court of public opinion and, subsequently, the votes that will admit or deny him.

2. Has Manny ever cared about anything but Manny? Will he even realize why he's not playing baseball?

3. I agree with the "level playing field" assessment. I think the salary disparity is a bigger factor, but then again the Yankees have proven that salary isn't everything.

Furthermore, I'm not surprised that a (former) member of the Sox tested positive. Even by conservative estimates, I'd heard that at least two players on every team were likely to be using some PED, statistically speaking. I'm sure it was more rampant in some clubhouses than others, but I can't imagine any of them were completely immune.
